Foundational Skills for Word Recognition (Charlotte)

"This course introduces how students develop foundational phonics knowledge and decoding skills that facilitate word recognition, with special focus on phonemic awareness, alphabet knowledge, and beginning phonics. After completing the course, you should be able to:

*understand how to help students develop phonemic awareness

*try out evidence-based instructional practices related to teaching letter names, letter sounds, and more complex grapheme-phoneme associations

*understand how spelling skills develop and what instructional activities can strengthen students' spelling skills."
