"This course digs deeper into how students develop fluent word recognition, with special focus on more complex grapheme-phoneme associations, high-frequency words, and strategies for students who struggle with reading words in context. After completing the course, you should be able to:
- Understand how phonemes map onto graphemes in 1-syllable words with common phonics patterns, including consonant digraphs, vowel-consonant-e, vowel teams, and r-controlled vowels.
- Understand how to teach students to read and spell decodable words and less decodable high frequency words
- Consider how to support students with word recognition in the context of a book.
